Eva Longoria and Hilda Solis Make Appeal to Latina Vote
and Congresswoman Hilda Solis (D-CA)
jointly discussed the importance of voter registration and voter turnout among Latinas, and underscored the critical role that women’s issues will play in the upcoming election. “Barack Obama has been helping progress women’s issues for many, many years as a state senator,” Congresswoman Solis stated, a long-time advocate of women’s rights from the Hill. She went on to emphasize that today, women across America make 70 cents to the dollar relative to the average American male. Even more outrageous, Hispanic women make 53 cents to the dollar relative to the average American male. “We need a fighter like Barack Obama. We need to have someone in the White House that will fight for us to provide good medical coverage, will advocate protecting a woman’s right to choose, and help us push crucial women’s rights legislation through Congress,” Solis emphasized.
“We need to get everyone registered to vote, and I can’t emphasize that enough,” actress Eva Longoria declared. In 2004, the democrats lost Nevada by only 20,000 votes, Florida by 380,000 votes, and New Mexico by only 6,000 votes. Currently, there are 68,000 unregistered Latino voters in Nevada, 500,000 in Florida, and 170,000 in New Mexico. Longoria encouraged everyone to register using the quick, bilingual, and easy to use voter registration site, www.voteforchange.com. “A lot of people I’ve met didn’t know that there were registration deadlines, thus they lost the opportunity to participate in the election.” Voter registration deadlines are fast approaching.
When Longoria is off the screen, she is on the trail. While many recognize her for her leading role in ABC’s Desperate Housewives, she has been leading a politically active life for over decades. Longoria’s interest in politics stemmed from when she was only 17, when her high school was recruiting for volunteers for the 1992 Clinton campaign. “I remember being thoroughly depressed because I was only 17, and could not vote. Since then, I have campaigned for several democratic campaigns.” Longoria campaigned for Gore in 2000, Kerry in 2004, and for Proposition 87 in California. The actress grew up in Corpus Christi, Texas, with her Mexican-American parents who were never very politically active. “If people take the time to understand the [electoral] process, it is amazing how much difference one person can make.”
Longoria also expressed her views on Republican vice presidential candidate, Governor Sarah Palin. “I’m very confused by the women who have turned their support to Palin because Hillary did not get on the ticket. Palin, for me, represents everything Hillary is not. I don’t know how a woman can support someone who does not support equal pay for women, or the right to choose.” Longoria, a Clinton supporter during the primaries, whole-heartedly turned her support to Obama after he won the party’s nomination. If you’re supporting Palin because she’s a woman and you’re a woman, then that’s the wrong reason to do it,” Longoria proclaimed.
Congresswoman Solis addressed the fact that Senator Obama’s values are closely aligned with those of the Latino community. “Like many Hispanics and Latinos, Obama is the son of immigrants, he is very proud of his family, and he is the father of two young girls. He shares many values with the Latino community.”
In closing, Solis specifically addressed Latina women voters, saying, “If you want good healthcare coverage for you and your family, if you want economic stability, and if you want help in sending your children to college, then support Barack Obama.”

PETA... are you out of your mind???? "Breast is best"

Can you believe they want Ben&Jerry, one of the best ice creams made in the world!, to use breast milk instead of cow's milk???????????????????????????????
They claim that it is "mean" to take away milk from baby cow's and so they should use breast milk!
So what I have to say to that (as a student nurse and future RN): what about the babies that actually NEED the breast milk???????? Breast milk is the very best for babies to be able to build up their defenses in their early baby life! It's just crazy! Crazy crazy crazy!
I am all for no animal cruelty and not wearing fur but come on PETA!!!!!!! You guys went WAAAAAAAAAY too far on this one!
And PETA wants them to name it "Breast is best".... !!!!!! What!?!?!?!

Dear Mr. Cohen and Mr. Greenfield,
On behalf of PETA and our more than 2 million members and supporters, I'd like to bring your attention to an innovative new idea from Switzerland that would bring a unique twist to Ben and Jerry's. Storchen restaurant is set to unveil a menu that includes soups, stews, and sauces made with at least 75 percent breast milk procured from human donors who are paid in exchange for their milk. If Ben and Jerry's replaced the cow's milk in its ice cream with breast milk, your customers--and cows--would reap the benefits.
Using cow's milk for your ice cream is a hazard to your customer's health. Dairy products have been linked to juvenile diabetes, allergies, constipation, obesity, and prostate and ovarian cancer. The late Dr. Benjamin Spock, America's leading authority on child care, spoke out against feeding cow's milk to children, saying it may play a role in anemia, allergies, and juvenile diabetes and in the long term, will set kids up for obesity and heart disease--America's number one cause of death.
Animals will also benefit from the switch to breast milk. Like all mammals, cows only produce milk during and after pregnancy, so to be able to constantly milk them, cows are forcefully impregnated every nine months. After several years of living in filthy conditions and being forced to produce 10 times more milk than they would naturally, their exhausted bodies are turned into hamburgers or ground up for soup.
And of course, the veal industry could not survive without the dairy industry. Because male calves can't produce milk, dairy farmers take them from their mothers immediately after birth and sell them to veal farms, where they endure 14 to17 weeks of torment chained inside a crate so small that they can't even turn around.
The breast is best! Won't you give cows and their babies a break and our health a boost by switching from cow's milk to breast milk in Ben and Jerry's ice cream? Thank you for your consideration.

I actually want to try to get the toilet bowl cleaner because the one I am using right now... it just doesn't cut it for me. I am hoping that it is a gel because I have tried other toiler bowl cleaners that were gels and they worked fantastic! SO will be checking on that! First day of fall... it came... now it is gone

Going to be a long day
But i at least got here to school on time!
And now I'm going to be sitting for a loooooooooooooong two hours (hopefully NOT 3 like last week!) and being bored out of my mind. I usually record the lectures but I am horrible at keeping up with them and hearing them again.
Tomorrow it will be another early morning. i have to help my friend monica move to her new apartment! yay! then at 1pm i have to meet someone at school to go over our video taping skills that we have to do on monday! yay!
I will also be doing that saturday at 1 pm and then i work at 3pm.
I work all weekend and it sucks because i am just going to be very tired by the end of the weekend!
Plus i have lots of laundry waiting for me at my house to be put away, washed and some even ironed!
Ugh! I hate ironing!
Ok well I gtg for now. Class starts in a few minutes!

Wal-mart trip
So Wal-Mart is one of our favorite places to go to (we go at the very least once a week... no lie!) Hence, these are some pics from trips to a wal-mart. I love the shirt my bf has on because it's just so cute! Isn' it??? Well I think so anyway!
I had heard about this product and wanted to see how it works and well... its pretty awesome. It's all natural so it's good for the environment and it works great on cleaning my sink to my floor. I just got the spray but there are products for cleaning your toilet and everything around the house. So if you want to be environmentally minded: get this product! It's not strong even though it's clorox product so I love that!
And on to the halloween aisle we went! Can you believe they are having candy for halloween already????? I mean it's only the beginning of September for crying out loud!!!
I got this OFF! product because my aunt and I have gotten bitten so much that we need extra products to rid off bugs! So since we're going out this weekend we can use this! It's supposed to not be greasy and water-resistant. We'll see how that goes!
I absolutely love these wipes!!!!!!!! I have become such a neat freak and these wipes help clean up messes and leave a great fresh clean smellbehind! And it is not strong either! Plus I don't need to use soap and water it just pops up and I take one. They are incredible! I first saw them on TV and wanted to try them! I tried the orange tub first and loved it - so of course I saw this 2-in-1 which all together has 150 wipes and I went right for them! I love them! I completely recommend them!Well I 'll end with cute pics of Odie (the pup), my bf and I:

But shockingly there was no light that went off at that point because that pic was taken as I was driving into a gas station. It was worth it. The price dropped down 3 cents from when I was going to get it. So... yeah.Anyway, this is my beautiful boyfriend:
We went to a Target that had these really interesting balls outside of it and he was fascinated by them (as was I mind you!). So I decided to take a pic of him. Of course there is a shadow so you can't see him real well! Plus I didn't have my digital camera so I took it with my camera phone!Well I worked a few extra hours this past Sunday and I was falling slowly in love with this lotion:
It is from Bath & Body Works. It's called: Rice Flower and SheaIt was delicious. Every time I went past it or washed my hands, which I do frequently when I work there, I put some on. It was awesome! When my Warm Vanilla Sugar is gone, I will have to see about getting this one! Yum!
So I have been wanting to go to the outlet stores around my area, and I finally went to one the other day. It wasn't as great as I had hoped it would be. I hope the other one that I go to is a lot better. This is just one of the branches of VF outlet stores so I'll update on others as we go there!
As I had said, my cousin is here from my lovely country of Ecuador and my aunt had wanted to rent movies for her to see. SO here we were in Blockbuster and she has all these horror flicks sprawled over the floor which made me want to take a pic because she is just too cute and funny to have done that! I am so going to miss her!
